Hi all, decided to virtual dub edit the 3600 frames I had from my recent Saturn Avi of New Years day discarding obviously distorted or detail poor frames. Ended up with around 1350 good frames and after running through registax Stacked up just over 1200 or these and then ran the same LR deconvolution in Astra Image.
The new pic is on the left, the old on the right. I reckon the dubbed one is slightly better (ever so slightly), but considering the tedious hours of manual selection and reprocessing the original registax selection is looking pretty good :confuse2:
Ah well, I guess sometimes it requires an exponentially greater effort to get incremental gains in this planetary imaging game. Plus I still to snake-freaked to go outside in the dark again
cheers,

They are both great pics Robert, both are crisp and clear:thumbsup:
(jst to make sure, the dubbed one is on the left right?)
Robert, I don't know if it's my CRT monitor or what, but I can see a significant difference in quality in your new dubed image. The colour is better and the detail is also better.
I think it's well worth the extra effort. Well done.
The bar just keeps getting pushed higher and higher.

Hi Rob
Wow - did you sort the avi MANUALLY in virtual dub? If so, you must have the patience of a saint.
Both are very good images although if I had to pick one, the left hand "new" image would be my choice.
Great job!
Cheers
Dennis
PS - I have a Saturn from 2nd Jan that I will try to process later, as I would be keen to compare our efforts with the C9.25.

Hey Dennis ....patience... not one of my strong points, but yes a couple hours at least sorting 3600 individual frames very very manually
look forward to seeing your saturn too
Thanks Guys, at least it seems the consensus is for the one on the left which is the dubbed one :nerd:

hi nit picker here and i do believe i have to eat my words.
the squareness i see on closer inspection may be a shadow at say 11pm and 1pm cast on the back section of the rings and hence makes it look square or over processed.
yes the left one is better, but i agree, for all the time put in for hand selecting, is it really worth it???
well done rob, now to read the one i have been waiting for , your mars group!

To my eyes the one on the left is HEAPS better Robert! (CRT monitor here also).
As to weather it's worth hand stacking to get that extra quality?...I have in my hot little hands a medical certificate barring me from any attempt at working for the next month from hand stacking AVIs just before christmas...the wrist brace I now wear cost me 30 bucks too. Please be careful! (I'm not joking)

thanks for the warning Asi :scared: - bummer about your wrist. Must confess to having developed a nasty twinge in my shoulder and neck as a result of PCing the last few days, I'll let registax do the work for a while and kick back with some beers... :drink: still not game to go out at night anyway:P
