Couple of wasp shots taken from the garden. Fascinating nest structure, I was happy just to spend a bit of time watching these fellas mill around their nests.
Taken with Canon 450D & Sigma 105mm macro.
Cheers :)

Great images Adam, well done!,I like the sharp focus, particularly pic 2-the whole insect in focus-nice and sharp. Not sure if I'd get that close to a wasp!!!.
Especially with my 60 mm macro,I think a 105 mm macro might allow one to not have to be as close to the subject,as the 60 mm.
Cheers Chris:thumbsup:

Great shots. Love my wasps. They have a special place in my heart, as some paper wasps in their nest were some of my very first macro shots, and they were the first time I actually stopped to watch their behaviour before shooting them to make sure I understood if they were going to attack or allow me to shoot them.

Fascinating to watch them build. I wonder how they know how to construct a nest? It seems like such a complicated and skilled task! I could watch them for hours!

Cheers for the comments guys. Chris, I was trying to get as close as possible without disturbing them :)
I went out again this afternoon to take a few more shots. You can just make out a larvae in one of the chambers. The first shots I loaded from the other day were just processed with Canon DPP. These two I tweaked a bit with Topaz, 2nd one is probably overdone.

That first one of the second batch is very nice. Be interesting to keep an eye on them to watch the bubbies grow.
