So I've got my friend's 10" Dobsonian on loan as she has moved to Canberra and couldn't take it with her straight away. It was nice clear skies on Saturday night so I begged my boyfriend to let me take it out and promised to find some nice looking objects for him, having anticipated his awe for months and months.

Alas, I seem to be a bit rusty and failed miserably at finding very much at all. I managed to find Jupiter (and Europa, Callisto and Io), M6 Butterfly cluster, M7 and M4. I was really hoping to impress him with some more objects but I guess it just wasn't my night :(

Oh well, better luck next time! (when the clouds clear that is...)

If you'd found Jupiter, and not found its moons, I'd be worried.

Sounds like you found some of the nicest objects in the night sky. I wouldn't rate that as a failure. Some people just don't get the beauty of these things. I've known people to be unimpressed by Omega Centauri through my 16" scope. I just don't get how someone can not get excited about that, but we're all different.

I was certainly still excited about finding some beautiful objects just wish it had been more of a success. I couldn't even see omega centauri due to trees, I really wanted to show him that and 47 Tuc. He still thought it was cool but I always get overly excited every time :)

Long may it be so!

Shelly, don't stress, ;) we all go through these sort of evenings when it all goes wrong, :eyepop: and although we try and impress, it gets worse by the minute.

Hang in there it will get much better. ;)

Leon
