For the past 3 years I have shared an observatory in South Australia near Moorook. Unfortunately the weather patterns have seemed to change over the past year and there has been a unacceptable number of cloudy nights in that I can no longer get any images finished. Therefore, my observatory partner and I have decided to leave Australia. I will be bringing my scope home at the end of this month.

I hope to still be able to post images to IIS but they will all be from up north. I want to thank you all for your kindness over the past few years and I am sorry to have to leave Australia. It has been fun.

Tom,

No-one is going to stop you from posting your magnificent and one-of-a-kind work on this forum, regardless of where it's captured from, or what you capture. : )

Keep it up, mate!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the weather. If I were you though I'd stick around a bit longer. You know that we are in a wet phase in Oz at the moment after the scorcher drought we had from 2003 to late 2006 so it's bound to come back. You know what's going to happen right? As soon as you board the plane with your rig the skies will clear. It's always like that. ;)

I was wondering the other day how many people had developed unreasonable weather expectations during our last few years of record drought. All the signs are we're in for a bit of La Nina for a while though. The recent cloud bands sliding down from NW Australia have been regular features this winter too.....:confuse3:
Maybe "unreasonable expectations" is too strong - not having a go at you or anybody else.

Hope you keep posting even though "you're leaving" Tom :)

p.s. Shipping costs likely to be exhorbitant to keep the scope safe - probably much safer if I drive down to pick it up and look after it here in Bris.....

Wish I could. Costs are prohibitive.

Still, I had a good go of it in Oz. Six APOD's and many published images are not too bad.

Living in Melbourne I can only agree with your assessment of the southern weather patterns this year, if you could only place it in the atacama desert no clouds there:-)

As others have said, I hope you still post your amazing images..... North or south.

Shame you can't send the AP RH down here, while our weather has proved less than optimal in recent times for you, ya gotta admit when they are clear our skies are MUUUUCH better :D
