Just wondering if anyone else in greater Brisbane area saw the 2 satillites following each other at 6.21 pm (approx) in the Venus area of sky tonight? 8-9-10
Travelling South to North, the larger (I guess ISS) following a slightly smaller one.they were quite close.Made a very interesting sight,I have never seen anything quite like it,the both had exactly the same path,I thought I must be seeing things, until I stopped and watched,as I saw it by chance.

Hope some others witness this odd event.

have you tried looking them up on heavens-above website?
I have seen two iridiums follow each other.

I have seen similar sight. The one I saw turned out to be the ISS (brighter) with the dimmer Russian supply ship called Progress not far away but slightly ahead in the same path.

Chris,
I have seen a similar thing before as well. I hope you find out that it was - have a look and heavens-above and let us know how you go.

Last but one shuttle flight, I got to see the ISS and the shuttle about 5 degrees apart, arcing over Sydney's west at about 6pm. Marvellous sight. Unfortunately I had just come home from work and was not set up to record the pass.

Thanks Tony!! WOW!,that amazing to find out that its was ISS and space shuttle that close.Such a shame it was shuttles last flight-at least I can say I saw a small part off it.It did look so good just looking at it visually.

Tony-if you had set up to photograph it,you would have ended up with just the one streak of light as they were both perfectly in line;from my position. From other positions on the planet, would the have appeared slightly different,so a photograph would have shown two different streaks of light?

I feel that they may have just been still in line, but I am not sure, what do others think.

I think what you saw was the ISS and a progress resupply soyuz spacecraft that launched a few days ago (http://spaceflightnow.com/station/exp24/100910progress39p/). The next shuttle flight (discovery's last flight) is scheduled for this november.

Chris I' ve seen a pair follow each other many times around 6.20
south to north just after dark, though its always been in the eastern sky ?

The ISS as I recall and I was lucky enough to snag it in my small finder
once and follow it briefly ,was quite large in the eyepiece and seemed to move in a more west to east direction ?

Never been really interested enough to find out yet as they are
pretty fast and hard to deal with visually.

Please share what you find out mate

Several times I've seen a group of three satellites pass over in formation. (The first time was at the VicSouth Star Party).

Someone told me that they were aerial reconnaisance satellites capable of stereo imaging.
