Kulnura Pics from 1st January 2006

We had a great session at Kulnura last night.
These are two images I snapped while socialising with the guys.

The first one is a 3 min exposure at 800 ISO using the 20Da.
I borrowed Octane's 24mm f/2.8 lens and Mike's tracking plateform to complete this wide field view of Orion and surrounding area.

The second is a long exposure of the area with a green laser bouncing around the place. :mad2:
Who's responsible for that one??? :tasdevil:

Andrew, I love your Orion wide shot!!!!

Always amazes me how much 'stuff' is up there that we don't normally see!

The red sensitivity in the Orion shot is fantastic. I very much grew up with films such as TriX or T Max (B&W that I could develop myself) which were blue sensitive and I had no chance of getting the Ha of Barnard's Loop. I remember going to the trouble of getting hypered Kodak 2415 to be able to capture Barnard's loop. And here you have it - no trouble at all!

That first shot is amazing! I opened the image before reading what it was and couldn't recognize the area of sky. Who woulda thought there would be so much extra detail!

That second shot really made me laugh! Almost like some little kid got bored and graffitied an otherwise nice shot :P :nerd:

Wow they turned out awesome Andrew! Well done!

Barnards loop in Orion looks awesome! The full version must look great. Was there any star trails? I don't know how accurate the platform was tracking.

The second one turned out well too.. The green laser pointer scribble looks funny :) The star trails behind the trees look great.

Ed, the seeing was "ok". On Mars it was terrible, no detail visible at all. But in the trap you could see 6 stars quite easily, so it was a weird night. The transparency was quite good before the southerly came through.

Great shots Andrew,

Just a lil word of caution, avoid firing your laser directly at your camera, the
high saturation and pulse of a diode pump laser can and will damage your
camera's CCD chip.

It was pointed away from the camera, Rob. Andrew was holding it from beside/behind the camera and pointing it at the trees.

Here's my shot similar to Andrew's second one.

69 seconds @ ISO 400, F/3.5 with Andrew's 10-22mm lens, at 10mm. Taken with my 350D.

Stretched the curves and ran through neatimage.

I hope everyone got home safely? H? The F3 was being closed again as I was heading home at 11.30ish. Fire blazing near Kariong up the hill from my place. Fortunately the rain this morning seems to have settled things down a bit. Hope we have better weather for Wednesday night at Mogo.

Cool, sorry to assume. Having worked with lasers for some years, it was
a natural reaction to comment.

Great pic's! looks like great skies too!

I take my hat off to you guys that did it with film, it's amazing to think what was accomplished.

Mike there was only a small amount of star trailing.
It was a wide field shot so not too critical.
The plateform worked beautifuly.
Here's a couple of the same image but cropped and zoomed in.
As you can see I picked up the flame area too in the first image !!!
Star trailing under extreme magnificationon in the second image.
Don't forget this was taken with a 24mm lens.
