Hi all,

I took a few shots of cane trains while I was up in north Qld harvesting some sugarcane trials last week. This is my favourite image. It's "Delta", one of Kalamia Mill's diesel locomotives that seemed to spend the week shunting cane bins into the mill. The scale of this industry still amazes me: Kalamia Mill (one of the smaller ones in the Burdekin) alone crushes about 10000 tonnes of cane per day and produces 1500 tonnes of raw sugar per day throughout the 20 week harvesting season! :eyepop:

Anyway, Here's the image.

Cheers,
Stephen

Nice one Stephen!

That brings back memories... I spent two work semesters as a cadet engineer for CSR at Hambledon and Invicta Mills.

Thanks for posting.

Al.

Thanks Guys.

I thought there might be a few here, Carl! I particularly like these narrow-gauge railways!

I haven't been to Hambledon, but I know Invicta Mill. Not a bad part of the world to spend a semester or 2, Al!

Cheers,
Stephen

Hambledon now is suburbia... southerns suburbs of Cairns where there used to be a country drive to get to Cairns when I was there.

I was back up there in 2000 and the mill estate was all built up. Sugar World was where the mill building itself was, but the golf course was gone, etc.
