A composition of a series of Luna mosaics taken over roughly 18 months.
This sample has been majorly compressed and shrunk from the 37mg
original down to 103kb to post here. So I have included a couple links to
higher res versions if you so desire. As I couldn't seem to get around the
horrid compression degradation. So here they are... jpeg-erised
Statistics are too many to mention, processing about 3/4 finish... but boy
what a big job with a few things in need of touching up. One day I'll get
a round to it.
Resized to 50% with medium compression (3853x855)

Full high res version (7700x1700)

Happy New Year All!!

Thanks for looking guy's! and for your comments and support through out 2005!
Hope you all had a fun and safe New Year!
After the conditions here were simply awesome once dark, I for goed partying
and spent the night observing under dark rural skies.
I was thinking of sending it in to the mags... but where would they put it? I
think it might be too big to fit nicely on a page without being shrunk to the
point of losing effectivness.
David, here's a lil challenge for you and your 8". Not sure what the light polution
is like for you. I have been scrutinising the Trap over the last few years and last
night for the first time I detected MT Ori (11.2) a variable star about 34" north of
component D of the Trap. I suspect this variable is currently peaking. The way
I was able to see it was looking directly between component B & D and use
averted vision. Once found, I couldn't detect it with direct vision, but looking
directly at it possy I thought I could also detect BM Ori which appeared to
sit roughly halfway between B & D and about 7" north. BM Ori peaks around
5.1 mag but I think it gets a lil washed out by the Trap.

Nice work on the moon mate - the high res version is spectacular.
I have been sketching M42 and surrounds over the last couple of nights and have been able to get some stars just north of the trap - will have to find a map and see what I can identify.

Thanks Andrew,
There are two fairly bright or obvious stars to the north of the Trap which I suspect
are MR Ori at 10.3 mag and NSV 02309 at 9.6 mag 1' 10" NE of MR Ori. MT Ori appears
to sit roughly half way between Component D and MR Ori. You will probably pick up
AE Ori (near MR Ori) and AD Ori (near MT Ori) in your 12.5"
let me know how you go

Thanks jjjnettie and Dennis
I'm pleased you enjoyed, it helps make the hard yards worth it.
jjjnettie, Jake has been over at his mothers for the last week
I get him back tomorrow. He's doing fine, playing up on his mum
I hear. I've only had to tidy the house up once, since lol. Missing
the lil fella though! but the break is good.
regards,CS
An amazing effort and a beautiful subject, that must have taken some patience. :)

I quickly glance around my place at the moment :scared:
A New Year's deep clean is definately needed.
Maybe after I collimate the scope.
