from tonight.....
Inspired by a suggestion from Clive (Alchemy) to try
for this grouping. Thanks mate:thumbsup:
He was right. The quartet didn't fit the DSI II chip :)
Maybe a project for the QHY-8 one night.
This set just completed as the moon was rising tonight.

I see it didn't take long to get onto these, I assume the gradient is a result of that beastly moon. How many exposures did you get ?, I'm thinking a few more might smooth out the background a bit and reveal even more detail, I am assuming it works the same way as long exposures.

Hi Clive,
there's a few factors frustrating me from getting the smooth background
and faint detail that I can usually reproduce from my method.
Biggest would probably be seeing. The last 2 or 3 outings the seeing has
not been brilliant.
Moon nearby....maybe, but I have had good results on nights with a
full moon nearby even.
Noise.....probably a big reason. The last 3 sessions have not had
cooling turned on so the CCD was about 15C for the Indus fuzzy and
19C lastnight for these. Normally I have cooling going and can get the
CCD to 0C-5C. That would make a difference.
Lastly, when all of the above factors are dealt with and I take 300-400
frames I get success. These sets are about 100-200 frames lately.
