Eastern Spinebill up very close

Today I got to within about 6 metres of one of the rare little honeyeaters in our garden.

I used a lower ISO 320,F 5,6 speed set at 1250 for the first 3 pics,although the data shows 1328.the last one all the same except speed was set to 1600,datc shows 1580.

I was using the 50d and 400 mm L prime lens.the first pic is a basic crop of third pic,all other pics no PP or cropping, just size reduction to upload,I like last pic,most,but was quite happy with all.

getting use to 50d for birding,when it spits out images like these,the biggest thing I like is the increments the ISO comes in just getting that iso down to 320,rather than my usual 400 makes a bit less noise.

Thanks for the feed back,yes-was very pleased with the sharpness and colour.Roger I did not use a flash,although picture 4 really does have that 'flash' look about it.

I was very close to bird approx 6 metres,he was very small about 3 inches and moving all the time.I think using the 50d takes a bit more skill in holding steady-more mega pxels to accentuate any movements or other faults the user does.One feature I do like ,appart from the smaller ISO increments,is the view finder-wow!its so much clearer looking through it than the 450d,I have been using 50d a bit more lately,and when I recently used the 450d,I thought the lens had a fault,so poor was the view through view finder.

That first shot (crop) is worth printing. Stunning, really.

Reminds me of the images I'd see in bird reference books as I was growing up (they were my favourite animal at the time).
