just nudging 4 hours taken with canon 300mm lens and the cooled canon40D, this is the deepest shot i have done on this area of sky. May be worth redoing again and reprocessing the data again but i will bounce this result of you guys.

I think you've done really well on the processing David. It's always going to be difficult teasing out nebulosity in such an intense star field.
You've got some lovely colour going on in both the Veil and the Stars.

thanks JJJ, it was very hard to process

Looks very good to me h0ughy. Most people have to resort to HA and O3 filters to get a decent signal of the faint nebulousity. I assume this was taken with Scott's lens?
A blend of colour and HA and O3 would come up beautifully with this lens and your cooled camera.

Excellent result Dave, nice work
Karel Teuwen just released a mozaic of this field (http://www.karelteuwen.be/photo_page.php?img=275&album=15)today too, considering your location and gear I recon yours is pretty dam good really.

My that must be difficult to get enough signal. Great effort Dave !

Thanks Mike - processed this the same way I did my m31 shot. what length of exposure was the image you linked to?
I shot mine at f4, though i could have used the f2.8, but since i was using iso1600 i thought it best not to push my luck;)

yep its faint, its sparse area but i had fun getting it - i enjoy Astrofest as you can have a chat to the people around you as the camera sucks in the photons - who cares if its 2 or 4 in the moirning:lol:. it would be much better to have 4 or 5 nights worth of data as i could only get a few hours due to the position it was in and the location. I will be setting up in a slightly different spot next year so i hope to get more of it for a lot longer.

David,
Indeed that area is extremely hard to process & produce results, and you've produced nebulosity in both Complexes of Veil very well without any overbearing noise results.
This is a definite milestone achievement award winner!!
Congratulations, lovely shot.
Kind Regards

thanks Shane - its a PB for me
David I echo what others have said, well done, beautiful FOV, not an easy target to process and you've done a fantastic job bringing out the lovely colours and faint detail.
Top marks mate !

Yep - top shot.
Wonderful FOV with that lens, but its always going to take a while to suck down enough photons. Then again, plenty of time to yack at AF as you say :)

thanks - i often wonder if it would be better imaging at a higher F stop ratio - an experiment for another day

it is indeed Louie - and when looking at it naked eye a rather bland looking area of sky hiding this secret spot

Great shot David. A tough one but you've nailed the colors and focus. I'm surprised you got that much signal in there. Kudos.

Nice one David. It seems like a bit more exposure required or maybe some NB to add to the mix. Lovely big field of view.
