Canon Extender EF 1.4x III & Canon Extender EF 2x III
The two new EF extenders are direct replacements of the current extenders offered by Canon as essential accessories for professionals. These new extenders have been designed to provide faster autofocusing and improved autofocus precision with compatible EF lenses. Each extender includes an anomalous dispersion lens element for reduced chromatic aberration and enhanced optical image quality. Each extender also features a newly developed microcomputer that increases AF precision when the extenders are used with a IS Series II EF super-telephoto lens. Both extenders are equipped with rubber gaskets and seals to enhance weather resistance. A new fluorine anti-smear coating is applied to the front and rear elements of both extenders.

The Canon Extender EF 1.4x III & Canon Extender EF 2x III are expected to be available in December for an approximate retail price of $500US each.

I've been sweating on the announcement of the 60D for a while, as it was a possible addition to my shortlist to replace the 350D.
Unfortunately the 60D is truly the end of the old xxD line, and the start of a line closer in spec to the xxxD's. Some reviewers are calling it a 'Super Rebel'.

I guess it's back to either the 7D or 5D2, or wait until one of these is replaced in the Canon line-up.

Some of those new L's look pretty tasty though. Can't wait to see a review of the 8-15mm Fisheye Zoom!

Now would be the time to be watching ebay waiting for pro's to upgrade from their 300/2.8L's to the 300/2.8 mk2 etc... Might be able to snap up one of the worlds best pieces of fluorite for a half reasonable price...

/me contemplates a 'cheap' 600/4L mk1 ;)

Hmmm... I'm an instant fan of the 60D. I was thinking of upgrading the 40D down the track some, and kind of like the flip-out rear LCD on the 60. Is it a still camera or video camera? The 5D MkII doesn't need one of these and it takes video just fine (as is evidenced), but hey. Might be handy in some circumstances - at zenith for example. It'd be nice not to have to crane the old neck to see the result of a focusing shot for example. Not too sure about the reliability though. I'm not a huge fan of articulated displays like this - especially in sub-zero temperatures. The little wires are going to snapping LRAC when it gets cold I reckon.

The 8-15mm is nice, huh! :)

Chris, my Canon S3IS has the flip out screen and I love it. I use it all the time.
It's great for macro work, shooting over the tops of crowds etc. To have this feature on a DSLR being used for AF, wow, that would be super handy. I keep the legs of my mount as short as possible for greater stability, and that means I'm always having to get down and dirty on the ground when focusing and framing shots. (oh the things we do for our art :rolleyes:) The flip screen would be a huge selling point for me.:)

Chris, I hear you, re: articulating screen and wire breakages. But, consider, Canon probably isn't thinking about astrophotographers as we make up a very tiny subset of users of their systems. But, still, I think it's a step in the right direction. : )

That's what I mean Humayun - they're developing these for day-time photographers and temperatures. Nettie - I hear you too re; your compact, but I'd still like to see these 60D's being used for a while in sub-zero temperatures before I'd look at one. If they used silicone sheathing and braided multi-core in this cable loom I guess I'd be happy. Would have been nice at the forest the other night, huh! We were both equatorial contortionists that night. LOL!

Yes! My neck and back hurt the following day, lol.

I certainly don't like focusing and composing whilst the camera is pointed at zenith -- at least not without the camera hooked up to the computer!

Look at the MTF graph for the 400 2.8 IS II...almost a perfect score.

Terry - Judging by that graph, Its probably safe to say that the 400/2.8 mkII will be the new 300/2.8... The 300/2.8L is the gold standard of telephoto prime lenses.. A benchmark for supreme accuracy and overall optical quality, and in my opinion, the 2nd best bit of fluorite ever designed (second only to the 200/1.8L) I'd really like to get my hands on a 400/4L DO to be honest.. I think that would be a superb piece of kit... Fast and long but not super heavy... I could hand hold a 400/4L DO... but the 400/2.8 is a monster and would require a monopod at the very least, but I'd think a gimbal/tripod arrangement would be needed to do it any justice...

I drool at big lenses... haha One of my many... many weaknesses... .
