Hi everyone,
Finally sat down and actually finished off a few more pictures which are building up on the hard drive. This is my third attempt this year of this and this one came out rather well. Last two attempts focus drifted and those dust bunnies got to breeding! :P Managed 40 x 5 min @ iso 800 with cooled 40D and 8" newt.
Spent a bit more time on this one in PS to try to get the dust and reflection neb to stand out. Another 40 subs should make this one real nice, but all in all happy with what I have managed so far.
All comments / critics etc welcome!

Noice.
Be 157, NGC 6723/6726/6729, Epsilon CrA and 20 or so (not necessarily visible here) galaxies in the PGC.

I like everything in the shot, composition, color, processing, contrast, you name it.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing I loved it.
Which part of Corona Australis is this if I can ask?

Thanks Alan, yes I am quiet happy with this combo, A OSC would be nicer but ;). I thought by now that I would have killed the 40D but it keeps plugging along!
cheers Matt, well never perfect (we imagers are always wanting better) :P but would be my best effort so far and happy with what I captured...thanks Mate!
thankyou Marc! it was a good night! transparency was really good which helps bring up that dusty stuff!
Many thanks Trev!
Glad you liked it Rob! Love this area! a must every year!
 thanks JJJ
Thanks Dave :)
cheers Andrew, sure is a busy area isn`t it! Only if there were a few small galaxies thrown into the background :)
Thanks Mike! Yeah David loves this area doesn`t he!
Be a first for a DSLR to get a HM but! but you never know!
Many thanks Brendon! must try for more subs!
cheers Luis! glad you enjoyed the image!
This area is on the northern end of the arc of stars not far from Gamma Corona Australis which would be to the left of the picture and around RA19 hrs DEC-37 degrees
thanks Clive  I think I got the colors pretty right!
Thanks everyone for commenting and looking!

Good one Andrew!
Which program or site do you get that info from?
Looks interesting..

Wow, that was a surprise. That is a beauty. Only minor suggestion would be a bit of light deconvolution on the stars (not the object) which seem just slightly blurred or soft.

Very nicely done Gary; a terrific result for a DSLR shot.
How do you cool a DSLR?
Cheers

thanks Greg, I usually do some slight decon on my images but it did introduce a bit too much noise into the darker areas, so didn`t do it with this image. Havn`t mastered how to do this on only stars?
cheers Gary
Thanks Martin, doesn`t do too bad a shot the old 40D :)
Cooling a DSLR is quiet tricky, most just put it in a peltier cooled box but I went for the direct approach by cooling the cmos directly like CentralDS with a copper coldfinger....Works ok but not as good as the commercial job or as pretty! :P Will pull the cmos down 20degrees below ambient.
Attached a picture of the camera just after the modd, not quiet finished but you can see the finger sticking out the side..No frosting problems as of yet.

Trick indeed! But obviously does the job. Thanks for posting the pic - I would have never been able to visualise that otherwise.

Beautiful image, Gary. I love the softness of your stars. You've always been able to produce a glowing sheen in your images (I've commented on this before) and it's something I've really come to appreciate as I prefer softer details myself over harsh sharp features.

Thanks Andrew! What great freeware! I`ll give it a go.
cheers
Thanks again Humayun  I must agree with you there, I like to do some deconvolution/sharpening but not to the extent that the stars end up harsh which I used to do years ago. I prefer to leave the stars a little soft. A little softer in this one than I wanted but happy with the result!
cheers :)
G`day Marcus Glad you enjoyed it like I enjoyed your version
Hi Phil, Thanks mate  The 40D still performs quiet well doesn`t it ex when it`s cooled.
Had it running at -2 for this lot.
I wish canon would come out with another "a" model for us..
A 60Dca :D sounds good (ca for cooled astro model!)
Hi Rich, many thanks. I know I know I have been a little slack at processing and posting my pics and this winter has been real lousy up here. Must pull that finger out :P
I shall pray for clear moonless skies too for everyone! has been a little while now since I got outside...
cheers mate..

Excellent image Gary. Superb subtle detail, lovely colouring and sharp tight stars. Very nice work. I agree with Mike, put that one into the DM awards next year.
What a beautiful rendition of Corona Australis Gary.
Love the subtle processing you've done (as always) bringing out those gorgeous star colours and lovely detail.
