G'day all, I'm looking for a list of the objects in the Index Catalogue (IC). So far it's been hard to find. I have a set of star charts with IC numbers next to some objects but I want to see the full IC list.

So far I've tracked down a list of the NGC objects, and apparantly this was revised recently (see http://www.ngcicproject.org/). Were the IC objects incorporated into the NGC list of objects? Somehow I feel not. So whay isn't the IC list so easily accessible?

What I'm looking for is the list of IC objects with their coordinates, constellation and common name. Is it too hard to ask for?

Cheers!

Hi Jowel,
I'm sorry I can't help you with your IC catalogue, however, here is something you might like (if you don't already have it). It is a list of all the Messier objects, with pics and a bit info next to each one. With mine, I have printed them out and popped them into plastic sleeves into a folder. From memory, I think there's probably only about 8 pages. I find this to be a great companion for my maps when I'm observing.

The NGC/ICproject is work done by private individuals and has taken a lot of work to get to the stage it is at at he moment.
You can purchase the NGC 2000 from Bintel which incorperates the IC catalogue.
there are 5386 objects in the IC catalogue so it will take a while or not at all for the IC part of the above project to be completed.
Cheers.

Does this help?
http://www.nightskyatlas.com/icData.jsp
Lists ICs by constellation or you can browse by catalog number.
You can also do the same for NGC objects and a whole lot of other objects selected from the top menu.

Hi Jowel
If you try this you will get a zip file with a combined list of IC and NGC objects generally listed in order of RA "NGC2000.dat" It is in ascii form so it can be read with a text editor. It is the old catalogue for stellarium now distributed as a binary file.

You will also get a handling file "readngc.exe" that can read this file and sort out what objects are visible from your location sorted by type, area, constellation, etc.
http://sarcasmogerdes.dyndns.org/observatory/zips/readngc.zip

Sorry it does not list their common names but I think everything else is there.

The program is written in Qbasic and may not run on a 64 bit system however. If you have any trouble contact me with the exact requirements and form and I will give you a file of the 5386 items that you can print out or read with a text editor. This is actually a basic function of the program if you work out how to use it. The Qbasic source is included.

That one has a spreadsheet with both NGC and IC in it. Do you need it in some other format?
