Hi Everyone!

We have proposed a Q&A/FAQ type of website at Stack Exchange that is intended to be focused on the pedagogical and pragmatic questions that teachers, teacher educators and outreach educators encounter in order to address the issue of a lack of centralized ‘professional development’ delivery in astronomy education. We are looking for keen astronomy educators and researchers to join our site and help create such an online community. Our proposal was put to Stack Exchange on 24th June, 2010 and received very positive support from the Community Coordinator of Stack Overflow Inc.

The Stack Exchange concept is somewhat like a knowledge database but is based on natural language questions about a particular topic. Our conception of the site/resource is as a place where educators can come to find out about how to teach particular topics in Astronomy K-12 education. The site itself is community built and generated, and while we put up the initial proposal, the actual final form of the site, which is currently in development, is generated through community member debate and we have no special “top-down” or “moderating” powers.

We have published an announcement in the Astronomy Education Review journal (http://aer.aip.org/journals/doc/AERSCZ-ft/vol_9/iss_1/010701_1.html) where more detail and the full proposal can be downloaded. The actual site in its development form is here : (http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/9728/astronomy-education-in-schools)

If you are interested, please have a look at the site and consider joining up!

Thanks!
