I have had a play in PhotoShop and tried some colours for my EQ Mount but I am still un-decided. Here are a few I came up with.

I know it's just a paint job but I want a colour that looks good, not just protects the metal.

Opinions welcome! :)

1. Black, 2. Fire Engine Red, 3. Orange, 4. Yellow, 5. White.

Has to be white Ken....then put a thin red line around it and call it a "L" series Ken Mount.

I quite like the yellow, but know I would end up with black or white if it was mine.

So dare to be different, anything but black or white.

I'm a fan of black mounts, but if your OTA is white you might as well colour co-ordinate. White mount.

My OTA is the common GS Silver Grey!

I thought I saw a white 8" on it in one of the other threads?????? Well if your scopes silver why not the mount. OR a nice case of chroming.

Now Tony if they were reflective dots then ken would have it made!

Yep Paul, that was Jake & Harry's 8". I am putting my 12" on it. It is Silver Grey. Chrome costs too much and I can't do it myself.

Lovely Tony! But Houghy is right, they need to be reflective LOL!

Black or white Ken, the rest look too industrial. You could, of course, apply the "Vingster" cow pattern and have both...:P

Won't the lighter colours reflect any stray light? Go for a dark shade. British racing green would be nice.

and fast too! :P

I think I will do it in 'Gloss Black!' Should go nice with the silver OTA and all the Chrome & Brass fittings I am putting on the Mount. And as Jeanette said, a dark colour will reflect less stray light. Also Black items cool quicker. Not that it should matter with a mount, but you never know!!

I won't use 'Matt' black as it's gets dirty & dusty easily and Gloss is easy to wipe clean. And Gloss is SHINY!

If I don't change my mind in the next week before I get to the paint shop, It seems that 'Gloss Black' is the go!

David, I tried hundreds of variations of all colours in PhotoShop. There are millions possible in there and I couldn't find one that 'Grabs me' and says "YEAHHHH!!!!!"

Sounds stoopid fussing over the colour of a mount so much, but I don't want to repaint it again in 12 months when I'm sick of Orange or blue or whatever. Black seems pretty neutral.

Plus, Bert put a lot of work into the manufacture of it (still is) and I don't want to make it look like it belongs in a circus!

He does!

But you are right David, getting the right colour is everything. Don't want to scare the stars away!!!

If you are going to add nice shiny things then gloss or matt black is the go. The guys in the workshop (who did a lot of the difficult machining and welding) always suggested a dark neutral colour in a paint that etches the metal. I had a lot of help and advice building the mount and it is really great to see so much deliberation into what colour Ken should paint his mount. Spots are out as they are very hard to get perfectly circular a bit like stars.

Just my two bobs worth.

It already has an etch primer on the bare metal Bert. All ready for the final coat of spray paint!

It is a work of Art and I don't want to spoil it with gawdy colours. And black should look good with all the shiny bits & bods going on it.

Settled! Gloss Black it is!

Thanks all for the suggestions.
