Hi everyone.

I am hoping I can get some help from one or two IIS members that could bring their scopes to show 150 Kids the night sky on the Coast here in September.
Every Year I get involved with a Kids camp called G.A.T.S. ( Gifted and Talented Students ) camp.
The camp is near Summerland Point on the Northern end of the Central Coast. It usually start when it gets dark enough to see the stars and goes for about 2 hrs or so.

Basically we need about 2-3 scopes set up so the kids can split up and see a variety of opbjects through a few scopes.
My scope will be one....so 2 others would be great.

There is usually an Astrophysicist on site to give a talk for the kids also.
Its usually a rewarding night for those who enjoy showing others the night sky.
All we need to do is co-ordinate with Each other and the Astrophysicist as to what to show the kids. That way it will compliment the talk that is given.

If you are interested, please let me know via this thread, or pm me for my phone number.

Cheers:D

Sounds great Geoff.
Count me in (do you want the CPC1100, or the SE4?)

That will be just 2 days before FULL Moon, so I don't expect to be showing too many Faint Fuzzies!

I will be going away on a trip North the next day, but I shouldn't think that will stop me.

Thanks Allan,Arthur and Rick.

Its OK Arthur, I think Allan and Rick and myself should be OK.
That will give us three scopes and possibly one from the visiting Astrophysicist.
But if you could make it let me know. 4 scopes would be great.

I will be taking my LX200 and Al, if you could bring the CPC that would be great, but the SE4 would be OK with the Moon as well I feel.

I expect Rick will bring the Dob, or even the 6 inch Newt. would be great too.

Thanks for the support, I'll let you know the details soon.:D

Hi Michael
You probably won't need an Argo on these nights as each one of us generally focuses on one or two different objects for all the kids to look through.
However it best to check with Geoffro as this format may change.
Cheers and thanks for your offer but, as I said, best to check with Geoff when closer to the night.
Cheers

Thanks for your interest Michael.

Rick is correct, we usually pick a few bright objects to show the kids, like the Jewel Box, planets, Moon if its visible and a double star or two.

You wont need an Argo to find the stuff. We will help you select a few objects.

Let me know if you can make it.
We need about 3-4 people, so we may have enough already, but if someone pulls out it would be great to have you along.

Cheers.

Sorry I didn't see that thread before, I'd have been happy to helpout, and even had an unused Argo Navis I could have supplied, long as you had the correct encoders to go with it.

Let me know if something like this comes up again. Glad to help a community cause.

Cheers

Did I miss something?
Correct me if I am wrong, but the "21st of September" hasn't actually happened yet. Right?

Hi again,
It looks like the set-up of the scopes should be about 5.30 to 6.00 PM. Ready for the influx after that.

I will confirm with Koolang Observatory ( who is running the show ) that we have about 3-4 scopes for the night.

Thanks to all those that offered help.

The site is in Gwandalan. ( near Summerland Point )

I will PM those that are coming with the details of how to get there.

Cheers to all.

Looks Brilliant so far !
(But that moon was Bright last night!)

Geoff, I am wondering, Should I bring the Van?
We four Amigos could all use it as a mini clubhouse (boil kettle, heat food, sit around and chat). Or are there better facilities on offer by the Camp?
Is there POWER available?

See you there around 5.
