Darwin - near sunset

First planned (sort of) attempt at HDR. The sun was setting so I took a series of shots at EV+/- 1. Here (http://www.synergous.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/settingsun.jpg) - 3 frames EV +/- 2, Canon G9, f/8, iso 80, shot from a table top - couldn't avoid the trees - no tripod with me - processed in Pixinsight.

Thanks Barry. These and the other images are experimental. I love the definition in the colours and finding ways to put that to good effect.

if your camera has in camera raw processing you can use what to make 3 separate ev+/- shots from the same shot so you don't get ghosting and don't need a tripod i have just started doing this :D

awww. you pulled my heart string Rowland. my high school is just up to the right of where you took that photo.! if im not mistaken that is mindil beach looking out onto the harbor. if not its over in fannie bay

Your right Brendan. It's the Sailing/Yacht Club. Was up there working. First time in Darwin and Gove. It was like the Paparazzi up there at sunset.



It doesn't Shane - I've installed CHDK, which extends to capabilities of the camera. Unfortunately on the day, I activated the debug option and the program wouldn't start?

I didn't notice the ghosting on the leaves to the left - actually I think its the breeze - took the shots manually. Had to look again to see that - thanks:)

:sadeyes: Please don't do that. By definition you cannot produce HDR from a single exposure, and the results usually look less than ideal.

hehehe yes it is the Dry season up there at the moment and the terrorists are thick! Though you think that is a lovely sun set :D hahaha you aint seen it in the buildup. Talk about blood red! and the storm fronts coming though they are madness

please explain why it looks less than ideal

These 2 reasons spring to mind:

1. Noise in the darks and shadows is amplified.
2. You gain nothing if the original exposure was clipped anyway, in shadows or highlights.

If either of the above are not a problem in your image, it truly isn't a high dynamic range scene, didn't require those techniques to start with and you could have just used curves or something.

Guy's - I didn't use AEB - I set the exposure manually and did an HDRComposition in Pixinsight - if your familiar with it?
