I had a quick look about to see if anyone had posted on this one but could not see any posts.

Nothing out of the ordinary....just caused by cooling of its interior. Same thing has happened to Mercury and possibly on Mars (but to a much lesser degree). Hasn't happened here because the planet's interior is still quite hot and buoyant.
In any case, it's a billion year old story:)

I won't lie, this is fabulous news for astrophotographers. : D
I wonder if we could convince nuclear bearing countries to just fire a bunch of nukes at the Moon and get rid of it, the pesky thing. : P

Just because we know what it is, don't make it any less interesting. We are seeing the last throws of a volcanic planet. oh i mean moon. :rolleyes:
