Hi All,

Captured data over approx 2 hrs this morning, had a high pressure system passing overhead, however the seeing was effected by the jetstream, the live feed at a glance, looked fairly solid, albeit " Semi Crook" but on close inspection there were the high frequency undulations typical of the worst of the jetstream, which was howling overhead. This destroyed the fine detail that I occasionally glimpsed, based on that observation I downgraded my estimate of the seeing to just plain "Crook".

Having endured such a run of "Crook" weather of late, I reckon I have become a bit of a connoisseur of gauging various levels of "Crookness". Really looking forward having to gauge various levels of "Bonza" seeing in the near future.

Have attached 3 RGB & 2 807nm IR images

Thanks for looking.
Regards
Trevor

I am sure you will get some good seeing again soon Trevor. These images are a lot better than anything I have been able to get this year.

Trev, it's very hit and miss with the seeing - all you can do is keep looking. I've had a few nights where I almost didn't bother, but then found good seeing down at the scope... you can't predict it with any accuracy as far as I can see.

cheers, Bird

Trevor,

The detail in these is pretty good for crook conditions in my opinion. I'd rate the conditions up here in QLD as an order of magnitude worse than crook this year (c__p comes to mind).

Hope you enjoyed your trip to Astrofest despite the weather,

Peter

I too would love to get images this standard but that JS is always out there and my results are recycle bin material, the IR looks pretty detailed and I notice you use an 807 - with the 742nm I cannot get anywhere need that level of contrast.

Thanks Lester, reckon we are all due for a change of fortune with the weather.

Thanks Michaell, I shouldn't complain, had a top run over the last two years.

So true Bird, John Rogers tells me that I am the only one sending data from the whole of Eastern Australia. He says even this level of data is better than none, makes me feel a bit better.

Thanks Peter, reckon I could come up with quite a few variations within the "Crookness" scale, based on what has been dished up since the end of June.

Certainly enjoyed the Astrofest, I think its the people that I ran into rather than the weather that made it so enjoyable but it is such a very long way from Broken Hill.

Thanks John, regarding the 807nm IR filter, it really helps having a 16" primary with that filter, probably the 742nm is better suited to a smaller aperture although Bird, who has both of these filters, still often uses the 742nm with his 14.5" primary. That may change when he gets his 16" operational.

Thanks Tom.

Mate right now I would take that seeing over the utter garbage I have been seeing for the last 6 weeks. Last night I tried for Jupiter and it was lucky to be 4/10 at its best. This season the jet has been a real pain. Fast seeing galore. No wonder I am working on DSO stuff most of the time.
