5D Cracked LCD protective screen

I cracked the outer protective screen on the back of my 5D MK II. The LCD itself is fine, but the crack on the outer screen is large and annoying. Anyone point me in the right direction for a new screen?

Are they hard to replace yourself?

Not really Baz, but you have to be a bit brave, when I converted my 5D's for astro work the back came of pretty easy, and it was not difficult to get to the screen.

Thanks Leon. I am certainly NOT brave enough to take the entire back off a brand new 5D MK II. I wonder if the rear protector over the LCD will just lift off with a scalpel or craft knife?

Well that could be an option, you really cant do any more damage to the screen i suppose.

Hey fella's, it's all good.

I got hold of Canon Service, who put me onto a place called, "Parts Overnight".

I got a new screen and gasket for a little over 50 bucks plus freight.

I think I will very carefully lift the cracked screen with a scalpel, peel off the old gasket and job's done!

I'll let you know how I go. Might take pictures.

Finally...

I have now got the new screen and gasket and was thinking about using a craft knife very carefully to remove the cracked screen, then gently scrape the old gasket off.

Getting the new one on should be no problem after that.

Does anyone foresee any problems with this approach?

Did it!! I used this POTN thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=922334).

The whole thing took me 3 minutes, using a heat gun from a distance and a suction cup out of my fish tank.

FIXED! Yay.
