G'day everyone,

As the title indicates, I'm new to IIS. I've been lurking for a while and have found this to be a wonderful resource of information -- thank you to all for contributing!

I'm also relatively new to astronomy, having been interested in the subject for about 5 years now. That's also how long I waited to purchase my new (and first) telescope, which I purchased from Bintel a couple of weeks ago.

After reading about Kulnura, I decided to go for a drive up there last night to see if I could find the place; of course I found it thanks to my Navman. In fact, it guided me right to the Paintball Place. When I got out of my car, I couldn't believe the sky I saw there; I've never seen such a clear and star-full sky in my life! Well, the last time I saw something similar was in November 2003 at Echucha, Victoria, when I attended the Earthcore festival.

I met Anthony (Frogman) last night, who was kind enough to grant me permission to park on their property and also set my scope up. He also allowed me to use some of his eyepieces to check out M42 and Tucanae. So, thank you to Frogman!

As I live in Western Sydney, the amount of stars and objects I could observe, and the details which I could see at Kulnura was staggering.

I also set up my EOS-350D with the 50mm f/1.4 on a tripod and took some pictures of the Southern Cross and Orion regions. I've got a long way to go to learn how to take astrophotos properly!

So, I'd just like to state that I should be in attendance for the session on the 1st of January. Great way to start the New Year!

Regards,
Humayun

Louie, the images aren't really worth posting. Although, I will resize, process a little and post them in the forum you mentioned, a little later on and let you know.

If by the buzzclick you mean the LX90, then yes, Meade makes a piggyback mount. The last time I went to Bintel, they only them for the 10", 12" and 14" systems, not the 8". I will get one when they have them in.

Hardly, mate, hardly. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness. It's appreciated. I just hope it's OK if I drop in every now and then, when I'm bored. :)

Regards,
Humayun

Humayun, Rather than spend dollars on something for single purpose use, you may want to consider the ADM mini dovetail system reviewed here http://www.users.bigpond.com/lansma/art_adm_review.htm#Ordering%20and%2 0delivery. (BTW this site has a lot of detail on LX90 and astrophotography.) http://www.astro.premcom.com/ADM/ADM%20Products/Mini%20Dovetail%20System.htm I think IIS member Mick Pinner is also making some piggyback accessories, it may be worth PMing mick to see what he has to offer.

Yes but it costs probably between $50 and $100 !!! and the mounting rail is then fixed to the SCT OTA.

You can buy an accessory mounting rail for almost all SCT's and you then buy a mounting block that fits on the mounting rail with a 1/4" x 20 thread for the Camera.

Could be more than "a few" this time Ed :)

Hi there acropolite,

Thank you for the suggested web sites. They are indeed quite helpful. I might make a post in the equipment discussion forum asking for more help about this.

Humayun

Hi John,

Would you have more information on that? URL, perhaps?

Humayun,

Everything you need is on this page.

http://www.scopestuff.com/ss_mrail.htm

Check the picture at the bottom of the page which shows a Camera sitting atop a Meade SCT using the mounting rail system. Very stable.

BINTEL in Sydney may be able to provide you with a similar system although I couldnt see anything on their website.

About time you popped up on here. :D

Now we can keep in touch on here, since I rarely make it onto IRC these days.
