I have just dealt again with Barry Gooley at Kokusai Kohki in Japan.

As before, it has been a very positive experience.

A few years ago, I bought one of their finderscopes as a special treat and have been very happy with it. All except for the mounting bracket which was a standard Vixen bracket that didn't perform very well. I've been designing my own, but checked back on their site to see that they now have a sleek black version of the finderscope with a purpose designed two ring, six-point mount.

Ain't that lovely. The finderscope mount by itself was too costly, relatively, so I weakened and ordered a new black finderscope package. It will look sweet on my scope! Perhaps the one I am replacing will end up on the secondhand market or perhaps I will replace a GSO finder on another scope.

Barry is great to do business with - excellent and prompt personalised service! Being Japan, prices are what they are and the exchange rate doesn't ever seem to move dramatically in the AUD's favour.

But (risking falling foul of the TOR! ) check Kkohki and Barry out. He is very proud of his new alt-azi mount for scopes - the T-REX! 16Kg payload.

Yes, the T-Rex does look very nice. I certainly wouldn't have any problems in ordering from Barry - good bloke.

The T-Rex looks good, but more pricey than it needs to be. The computer and encoders (at todays exchange rate) cost AU$1400 vs AU$560 for the Discmounts computer and encoders. Seems like there's ample room to make the T-Rex more competitive.

Finderscope is here! :jump: It spent longer sitting in post offices in Australia than it spent getting away from Kokusai Kohki, out of Japan and through Australian Customs! I had to chase it up at the local post office. It was just sitting there - perfectly addressed?? Go figure!

A beautiful looking piece of equipment. The six-point, two-ring mount looks absolutely made for it (which it was). And, a nice touch, a supplied replacement thumbscrew for the dovetail foot - larger and easier to operate. Plus another lovely "We  stars" bag!

And here it is mounted on my scope. Nice to look at. Good to use.

I should have mentioned for anyone looking at the finderscope:- The reticule illuminator in the photos is not the one supplied by KK. Theirs is a more compact, constant illuminator with adjustable brightness.

The one attached is larger but has more features. It is a Rigel Systems PulseGuide Illuminator:-

A very neat illuminator.
