Came across that one (http://tinyurl.com/2ae7xkl)on utube. Loads of interesting stuff in there about professional observatories, AO and pretty cool animations of blackholes sucking stars and all around them so I thought I'd post if it hasn't been done already.

Thanks for that Marc.
Most interesting bit of detective work!

Lets not foget of course that "science" is testable, observable with repeatable results. Black holes, although the best theory yet explaining certain phenomina, are still just theories, non tested non observed. I dont like to talk of such theories as fact until they are.

Just my two bobs worth.

How interesting was that ... Ones things for sure ... these observers and scientists are making new discoveries, new appraisals, new rules, defining new ways of understanding that is definitely taking us closer to unraveling some of the unknown. I think that new discoveries ultimately lead to new questions, new quests, and so, like the universe, this quest is endless, a continual progression of find the answer, start on the new series of questions the newly discovered answer has raised ... and it goes on and on and on.

Wonderful to think that throughout man kinds history, he will never ever conquer space, the universe, it will always throw up something new.

Makes you realize just how complex our existence probably really is and indeed life as we know it on earth is finite ... one day our sun is going to run out ... mankind will have to pull a new star from somewhere, manufacture a new star, refuel the sun, or move on to another place.

GREAT link Marc !!!!

I agree, and i think the video says the same, it is not iron clad proof but it's looking good.

Personally, If current proven science says that no mass can travel at the speed of light then black holes as the theory states can't exist (In pure math theory). Black hole to suck in all light would need to go as fast as or at the speed of light to suck all light in. So this would mean that it would have no mass just energy. I think this is a discussion many time mentioned in this forum and during my school days.

But it can still suck in a lot of light and any light that escapes maybe so dull that it can never be seen past a certain distance (1, 10, 100 light years), hence why they look black. So why not call them black holes lovely term. It just an idea, stimulate the brain. :P

I fail to see the connection between masses having to travel at the speed of light and the existence of black holes.

Same here. It's got nothing to do with the speed/velocity the object's moving at, just how much it bends spacetime (and that is dependent on mass).

Also, how many times do they have to repeat the same observation over and over again (large concentrations of mass in tiny volumes of space) before people accept that the existence of black holes (despite the fact they've never seen one physically...which is an oxymoron because you can't see one physically, you can only detect its presence) is a given.
