Looks like a few key players are heading up to Bretti Reserve for the 7th.

Does this leave anyone interested in the Pony Club for that day?

Weather not looking good though for both locations.

14th maybe?

Greg.

Sorry "Pony Clubbers" (no animals were injured in the writing of this email). I won't be there this weekend as it is my wife's birthday. To whoever does make it to the mountain - have a good night. Tony.

I am definitely interested in dragging the scope out on Sat.night.
Need a fix. How many takers have we at this stage?
The weather forecast doesn't seem too bad.
I know a few guys are away, but where are all those closet dwellers?

I'm still in.
Weather Underground is saying it will be cloudless all night. ?

So I guess that means you didn't go to Bretti, Geoff and Rick?
Have you heard anything from the explorers?

I am at work, with my van all packed, and heading up there after work tonight.
I hope they are still there when I get there. :confused2:

Why don't you and Rick come on up today too.
We can have a mini convoy.
I hope to be leaving Newcastle by (or before) 3pm. arriving 5:30.

Its just for two nights! In the darkest skies in eastern NSW!!!

Or you can even come back with Geoffro tomorrow (Sat) [as he is going to a party or something back home].
And then you will be back for Pony Club saturday night.

Hi All

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I am a bit of a noob here but was wondering if pony club is availble (or suitable) for a 1st timer? Would the Katoomba meet on tonight be better for me? I would come armed with my Sky watcher 102 refractor and the 2010 astronomy guide but other than that I must confess that I am a fully certified beginner.

Hi Dodgyd.
You are certainly welcome at the Pony Club.
Should be someone there by 5 or 6 pm.

Looks like there might be some cloud around though.

Yes, you're most welcome to attend, and you can have a peak through other scopes too.

Hi dodgyd and welcome to IIS.:welcome:
You would be most welcome at the PC.
We were all first timers once so don't be put off by that.
If you decide to come we have plenty of scopes to look through and a lot of experienced observers to help if needed.
If you come, the directions are posted on the website how to get there.
It is expected to be very cold tonight (0 degrees) so bring plenty of warm gear to be comfortable such as thermals, beenies, gloves, lined boots etc..(It won't be as cold as Katoomba though I would expect):P
Cheers Rick:thumbsup:

Thanks for the warm welcome. I think Pony club is a bit closer than the blue mountains so I will try and make the trip up north. Will take some warm gear, the scope, small red torch, map of how to get there, cloud repellant... I think that is all I need? What time should I aim to get there?

Thanks for the introduction last night. Was great to look through some other scopes and have some help identifying the features of the night sky. Hope you all enjoyed the rest of the night after I left!

Sorry I missed last night again Geoff/guys.
I finished work too late and was too exhausted to come out.

Glad to hear you guys a good night.
Hopefully catch up next time.

Rick you'll have to keep the stoggies for our next meet. :(

Sorry to hear that Geoff! :(

although, the first time I read your post I thought it read:
"I will BRING the Port".
(funny how your mind can play tricks on ya !)
wishful thinking ! :P

Then, re-reading it.......
I got this image of you in a pure white sailor suit !!!
Hello Sailor !

... Anyway, catch you at IISAC.
Have you decided camping or bunking ?
haha ... C A M P i n g ... or bunking ?
... Another Sailor joke !!!

so, let us know...
as I can go either way!
(haha I'm in tears now ...)

Sounds good for Saturday night Alan.

With regard to IISAC........we could bunk up at the top house

It may be viewed as a bit anti-social by others tenting and caravaning it down below.

What do you think ?

PS....Good to hear your are bringing some Port Saturday night Geoff....

UPDATE: I have caught my son's Flu it seems , so I may not be coming after all.
Unless I feel a lot better between now and Sat night I will have to give it a miss. Sorry folks.

Geoffro.

Hi Allan
No one else?...., I intended to go last night but the sky line here was littered with clouds and decided to give it up.

Glad you had some nice views and sorry for not joining you.

Well,
since I didn't take a telescope (only the BT100s)
and
I was cold and lonely (forgot my jacket)
I waited to see if anyone was coming after moon-set,
and I was out of there before 10.

Joanne did not recognise me !!!
(remind me to remove the belaclava next time)

Sorry, Allan, I had in mind to go but by the time I finished my chores, I was too lazy!

The Port was ready and I intended just to bring the apo80 plus camera.

We have to finish the Port at Lostock!:sadeyes::sadeyes:

When I was packing up last week from pony club I saw the below on the ground under my scope. I thought it was from mine, but closer inspection and I can't see where it would be from. So, anyone lost one of these widgets at pony club? Anyone need it for their scope?
