Massive 20 foot waves at Piha, May 2010

Hi All, I've always liked the esthetic's and excitement of waves, especially big waves, and thought I would share a selection of some images I took earlier this year.
I'm not a surfer but I do body boarding and tend to seek out the largest waves I can find, usually at Piha Beach on Auckland's west coast. We do get plenty of swell here with 4-5 metres not being unusual, but in May I was lucky enough to photograph the biggest and most beautiful swell in years, with massive hollow 20 foot waves rolling into perfect offshore winds. I have made a little gallery with some of those images plus a couple from February/March.

Agree, although I've long since fallen off my board for good. There's an iconic image of Teahupoo which is a favourite.
