As usual the only clear nights here seem to be with a big moon. I decided to image NGC6188 using Narrow Band Filters.
Some repositioning of the flattener is required to fix a couple of star problems and a bit of tilt haven't been kind but they are things to work on again.
These are two variations on colour with the NB images.
Scope: RC8 with Takahashi Flattener.
Camera: Atik 11002M Mono camera
Filters: Baader Ha, OIII and SII filters in QHY2" filterwheel.
Subs: 1.5Hrs each colour in 15 minute subs fully calibrated.

Nicely done Doug

Nice shots, Doug. Green one seems to have a bit more zing to it, not quite a sharp looking and feels more natural but the red one is good, though:)

Very nice result and reminds me of The Wall in the North American nebula. I prefer the red version myself.

Ok...what's this narrow band stuff Dougie???? thought you didn't like these filters from hell? ;)
Looking good mate, I like'em both

Thanks for the kind comments Guy's.
Mike. It's all I can do with a big moon wiping out everything else. I am starting to appreciate the detail which can be extracted with the NB filters. At least I didn't just write it off without trial. RGB next time I get some good weather, I promise.
Two very nice images Doug.
I think the green version just has a bit more in it. It seems to jump out and grab your attention.
Cheers

Green for me Doug, Can almost feel the texture, nicely done!
Darren
Both look very good but the green one does it for me because it shows more/different detail

I agree that the detail is very nice. I like Narrowband myself because you can get loads of detail without blowing out things - just like you did!

Hi Doug,
Love the narrow band. Your starting to do well with your new camera! Top stuff!

Thanks Guy's Warming to the green one a bit myself. It's known as a reverse HST pallet. The detail with NB is the big pick up with these filters and the ability to change the pallet to give best detail is also a big plus when imaging in fairly narrow light bands..

Striking, different, excellent detail, top work Doug, a pleasure to view.

Maybe the green one but it shows the stars a little pinkish but love em both. A bit of curvature there too but still awesome shots with huge detail.
Cheers Daniel.

Thanks Petra, Sorry I haven't been to the club of late. Work gets in the way each month lately.

Thanks Daniel, I think I have a problem with all the different connectors to run this big heavy camera and filter wheel on the little RC and am suffering some camera tilt I have to overcome.

Interesting stuff Doug. Did you find any vignetting in the image with this camera and the RC8's narrow rear opening?
This image covers a huge field and I am happy to see that the stars are nice and small too. Think more about the STL11 if this is the case.

It was an interseting exercise. There was some vignetting but flats controlled it pretty well. I did have some trouble with the OIII flats when using my EL panel and think I will have to give Pete a job to make me a light box for the 8".
I am really impressed with the 11002 chip and it's capabilities. The increase in field of view is about double that of the 8300 CCD.

That sounds great Doug. Perhaps a 35mm sensor is on the cards next, now for the price to drop remarkably. Yeah right.:)

Hi Doug, great image! I love how the contrast really emphasises the detail.
It looks to me however that there is quite a bit of aberration off axis...? Is that flattener not doing its job for the large chip?

The camera had quite a serious tilt as a result of the clamp up connectors and now that I have a serious camera I will be getting some screw together connectors made to suit.

I am surprised how well this camera performs and believe me the prices of this chip are dropping quite rapidly. Should be some real bargains in the near future.
Thanks Dave.
I'd missed this one Doug. I love the striking contrast along the edge of the neb cloud in the red one. Was that a bit of Ken Crawford-style selective High Pass masking perhaps? Whatever you've done, we want MORE! :D

Thanks Rob, lots of selective masking and for once I actually achieved what I set out to achieve.
No more images from me until early Sept when I get back from Qld holidays.

Doug,
Sensational effort. This has been the most difficult object I've encountered thus far. I've never truly been happy with any of my efforts.
I love the red version. : )

Thanks H,,, Not sure which one I like best but I am sure more exposure and a little less fgocal length would improve this image of this hard target.
