Hi guys

I want to have a go at a bit of imaging with my dob.
Planetary stuff to start I guess.
It looks as though an entry level is to start with a webcam, but which ?

The toucam seems a favourite, but i'm not sure if you can still buy it. If you can i would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

If theres better models on the market now i would love to know about them

Thanks

Stu

Hey Stu

The Celestron Neximage is, I believe, a remodeled Toucam in a housing to suit telescope focusers -i.e it has a 1.25" barrel on it. They're about 200-300 aus dollars I think. I have one and they're very good for imaging planets. I'm actually thinking of selling mine soon if you are interested? Not 100% sure just yet as I need to do a drift alignment test with WCS to see if it can be used, but if not I'll most likely sell it on this site.

Hey Stu, i have found a Logitech notebook pro works good, the toucam adapter fits it, but the supplied software is no good as it wont capture in .avi . A software called Amcap worked wonders and Registax for the stacking. The cheaper Logitech quickcam was terrible, but i have heard that the quickcam 4000 is also good.

Telescopes & Astronomy in South Australia still sells Toucams. Both the 840k and the SPC900NC.

He also sells the modified versions.

His website is a mess and hard to find things but he does sell them and they are still on his website: http://www.telescopes-astronomy.com.au/

The Toucam is here: http://www.telescopes-astronomy.com.au/toucam_philips.htm

Scroll down through the whole page for info and Toucam accessories. They are spread all over the page :screwy:

I did say the website is a mess.
