NEW PIC "Diamond Ring" effect, TSE, 11 July 2010

Sorry about leaking shots out bit by bit - still trying to unpack, get into overdue work, etc etc. Lots more to come... ;)

Here's an animation of the first Diamond Ring. The light cloud in the first few frames is the only cloud we saw around totality. The 'diamond' was a stunner, and lasted an incredibly long time. All details are in the clip, hope you enjoy! :thumbsup: Warning: usual YouTube upload quality! :lol:

:lol: I ain't posting my corona fiascos Eric! Luckily Haesey has offered to help. Didn't capture the exiting 'diamond ring' - by that stage I think I was utterly transfixed, and probably dribbling onto the deck! :P

The sunspots (AR #1087) are there, but pretty small at this scale.

Not hard at all Michael, pure luck! On the ship, they did have eclipse photography (and viewing) tutorials in the days leading up to the eclipse, but it all seemed to make the event overly complicated so I stayed away from them.

Like I said in the other thread, when the first diamond ring was imminent (you could tell by the sky, and by the buzz in the crowd), I whipped the filter off the camera & just kept shooting using a wireless remote, with the same settings! The only time I looked at the camera (on tripod) was a couple of times to change the exposure setting, and a couple of times to check that the eclipsed sun was somewhere within the FOV. :screwy: :lol:

Very nice image Rob with good coronal detail. An EXCELLENT result from a shipboard observation.
On my only eclipse observation afloat there was a large swell and slow exposures were not possible. So I was not able to put together a corona image.
