i tried a stacking method while testing a baader fringe killer on the 127ED and the canon40D last night. It downright horrible - that bad i cropped out the blue ring it left around the whole moon structure which was a reflection with the filter in place. yes it did remove some of the fringing but it introduces a whole lot of nightmare. so in short unless you have TAK like optics then you will end up with colour on very bright objects:shrug:

Yeah Bright objects can be a pain sometimes h0ughy.
Good of you to post a 'failed' image. With people always posting the good stuff, it sometimes sets the perception that this should be easy :-)
SERENITY NOW!!!! ;-)

thanks Bill.
i might try another way later to see if that improves the shot and try stacking different elements of the image. one of the shots that makes it up is 15 seconds at iso100
