it was windy, cool and low cloud was about but i managed to get a happy snap of the crescent moon.
I tried a HDR - and in hindsight i should have had the tracking working better. taken through the 127ED facing the wind (LOL) with the cooled Canon 40D. Its a ordinary but it does show the earthshine:help:

on another note when do you use king rate, lunar rate, and sidereal rate - especially when the object is getting close to the horizon?

Yes, I caught a glimpse between clouds.

I like the shot, David. Well done, given the massive difference between fully lit and earthshine parts. And a couple of stars streaking by as well.

Solar - Sun
Lunar - Moon
Sidereal - Star, based on single rotation of the Earth 1436.5 minutes.
King - Same as sidereal but takes into account refraction. Used for long exposure deep sky astro-photography.

Very nicely done Dave! Quite an eerie feeling to it.

Cheers

thanks Denis - i am not happy with it but gave it a go anyway. apart from the flaring the wind didnt help much
