Hi this is my first attempt at a mosaic of the sun. Man what a pain to process.

Note: Image has been updated since original post. I realised that my monitor was in dynamic mode and the black levels were wrong. As a result when viewed on other machines the background looked terrible. I have modified it to improve it a little.

The image was assembled from about 30 images (stacked from 30 avi's) including the separate exposures needed for the prominances around the outside.
It has taken me most of the day to get a reasonable image. There is way to much work trying to combinethe images, as it introduces all sorts of artifacts and probems where the frames overlap making it look like a badly made jigsaw puzzle.
Anyway I am reasonably happy with the image. Unfortuneately some of the frames were not as sharp as I would have liked and with a mosaic you have to take the good with the bad .
The full size image is too big to post here. it is approximately 3500x3200 and a jpeg of it is 1.4mb in size (the tiff is 65 megabytes). You can view the larger Jpg image on my web site www.billd.net (http://www.billd.net/).

Thanks Paddy,
I actually just updated the image so I dont know whether you saw the better one or the worse one with the bad background :-) It wasnt until I got to work and went to show someone that I realise how horrible it looked.

Impressive!

Not a lot happening but the sun looks very spherical and detailed.

Thanks. Yeah really just wanted to try this as an experiment. I should have picked a better day with more action. I doubt I will do this too often.

Maybe I exagerated a bit I think there were 28 or there abouts. ;) Processing the AVI's was a dream with the AVISTack 2 batch processing. (Beta testing it at the mo. It looks great) should be out real soon). The painful part was assembling the mosaic and matching the panels etc

Thanks h0ughy. There are some fuzzy pixels in parts there so I didnt enjoy them all. I might see if I can find another panorama app. Had alot of trouble getting it right using Photoshop's function.

Thanks luigi,
I have been practicing the processing / assembly a little biit more. and next time when the sun is a little more active I will give it a another go.

I prefer the image at about the size you see it here on this forum. The full size images on my website are too big hehe. The reduced images look alot better.

Wow! :eyepop:

For a relatively quiet sun there are plenty of smaller and interesting features to admire
