Just trying out a few dark nebula shots with my modded 20d.

This was taken at a dark sky site north of Brissy. 2 hours at 5min exposure , 800iso + darks and flats. Captured in Nebulosity, processed in Photoshop CS3 curves, levels and tweaking.

Comments welcome on the processing, also any suggestions on how to reduce the halo around the bright star.

Thanks Geoff

Very nice.

You can try the sponge tool set to desaturate (about 30%) and rub it on the blue areas of the halo.

That's a beauty Geoff (adds yet another target to the growing list), hope those clouds go away so you can do some more.

Nice contrast. I would have thought this area to be much more golden in color as it's smack bang in the middle of the milkyway?

Justin and Marc, thanks for the comments.

Unfortunately due to the lousy weather it will some time before I find another target like this.:(

Very nice Geoff, was it with the FLT?

Very nice image Geoff. The nebula stands out well against the background. Halo's bugger, hard to handle always. Select and desaturate helps a bit but Gregs cure will be the best I think.

I used the sponge tool which has certainly taken out the blue halo. This is the best I can achieve at the moment.

Happy with the result... thanks Greg for the tip, much appreciated and thanks Doug for the comments.
