I'm trying to track down in good working order a second hand lower leg for a Mercury outboard. The 15 hp and 9.9 use the same leg. Drop me a pm if you have one and we can thrash out a price. ;)

He is Mercury certified, and deals in 2nd hand motors ... possibly lower legs.

My father in law has a Mercury motor (which I bought from there for him), and this guy really knows his stuff.

Thanks for the info Shane. If I have not luck I'll check it out. It would be a shame not to be able to use the motor again as its still in great nick.

Whats wrong with the lower leg Paul? Can't be reconditioned?

I'm not sure exactly the exact details of what happened John, but the gearbox has seized or stripped. Its off my dad's motor. The motors not really worth spend the sort of money reconditioning or a good second hand one would cost. I'm just putting it out there that hopefully someone will have one I can get at a reasonable price to give him. He's retired in Tully Heads and I'd hate to see him miss a good day out on the water if his other motor goes down :D

I'd be trying several dealers if you can't find one, I once bought a boat and motor, the owner sold because it was going to be too expensive to repair the gearbox, I found a second hand gearbox at the first dealer I tried. They often trade in old motors and sell them stripped for parts. It's also worth keeping an eye on eBay, there are often complete and damaged OB motors at bargain basement prices.

Thanks Phil. I'm yet to give ebay a try, but you never know I guess.
