This is a mosaic of two panels 10.25x4.60 degrees of bits of Sag and Sco. The cluster M7 is at the top right.

Large Image 8MB

If you download the image in your browser just hit F11 for full frame and click anywhere on the image to see it at 100% at that bit of the image.

Weather has been lousy lately. Managed to get this after twilight ended and before the Moon had risen.

What is that faint circular bit of HA at top center? Is it an SNR?

Very nice texture in those dark lanes. Beautiful details and colors.

amazing, a heap of detail and colour (as usual) but i see a bit of a green cast in the image to the right (i am looking on the calibrated monitor). The H red areas look a treat. the lower right has a blue hue( - would that be young stars?) moving to the green then to the golden central part and darker regions above with the red nebulousity. What a striking image

I am just an old bloke who wants to see the sky as if my eyes were far bigger and more sensitive!

Houghy with my old eyes and and the large area of the image it is impossible to get rid of gradients. I left it alone as gradient exterminator produces even more artifacts. As I have not seen such a large area at relatively high resolution it could be real. The human senses can be fooled very easily. We are all to used to images that are adjusted for the 'local' conditions to make them look 'correct'. With wide fields this just does not work. Light pollution is also a factor beyond my control. Thanks anyway for the colour assessment.

Bert

I like to think of my images as signposts for others to use as a kind GPS to pick bits that look very interesting.

WOW! :eyepop: Bert another spectacular widefield, I'd love to count the stars but I fear it would take the rest of my life.

Simbad has HII region LBN1120 centered on your little red blob, also centered around the two brightest stars in the lower left corner of it (red blob) is listed RCW134, SNR G358.4-01.9 & a possible PN hiding under the brightest star...a very active little patch of sky.

Now I'm off to continue exploring your image, thanks for sharing Bert, always keeps me entertained.

Edit: Lower left corner of image you've also captured Terzan 9, nice one.

unimap detects 84131 objects. It matched 1927 objects. 188 stars out of Tycho-2, 2092 DSOs from Messier/NGC/IC/Hyperleda.

It says the image is centered at RA 18:00:09.000 Dec -29:28:12.00, and is 10:12:19.289 by 4:35:24.657

Love the image. Amazed by the performance of this alpha software and its ability to handle this amount of data on a notebook.

The red bit is a Sharpless object, Sh2-15 from memory. It forms a triangle with M6 and M7.

Andrew, thanks for the tip.

Just googled Unimap...what an interesting piece of software, requirements say 1024x768 but I'll give it a try on my 1024x600 iee lappy & see if it's still usable (probably not).

Thanks all. Here is a mosaic with two more panels 14MB. FoV is 10.6x8.0 degrees.

If the weather clears will fill in the missing bits.

The Lagoon and Trifid nebulae give you a better idea of how big the FoV is.

My notepad is 1024*600 and unimap works. GoogleEarth doesn't like the screen but will run. You can probably put the screen in 1024*768 scroll mode to shut up the installers.
