For those that are interested the 16Gb iPhone 3GS is now available thru everyones favourite telco on a $49 cap plan with no upfront payment.
I have just ordered one to replace my 3G 8Gb.

Adrian

Ps for the 49$ you get 450$ worth of calls and 200 Mb of data.

Hi Adrian,

How do you find an iPhone for Astronomy?

I got an Android phone myself and love it for Google Sky Map and using it as a red flashlight... :P Any such equivalents for iPhone?

Ivo,

You will not believe the amount of astronomy applications there are for the iPhone.

Do a search on these forums for iPhone and astro. I've written lists of applications in the past, as have others.

There's full on planetarium (with telescope control/camera control) applications for the iPhone, and, they work incredibly well.

Wow... Just did as you suggested and found Starmap Pro. Seems like an iPhone poops all over anything else when it comes to astronomy! :eyepop:

Ivo,

Try Chronometer (not strictly astronomy), The Photographer's Ephemeris (not strictly astronomy), SkyVoyager (I find this one to be the best) also, for a start.

They all seem pretty amazing! I got an Android phone though and was trying to get a feel for what it's like 'on the other side of the fence' - pretty damn green it seems :)

The deal Adrian found seems like a great way to get started for those looking to avail of all this goodness!

I have been using the iPhone 3G for the last 2 years and use a few astronomy apps including Sky Voyager and find them extremely useful. I haven't used the control option in the program yet but I believe a few on this forum do.
There are literally 1000's of apps and guaranteed there will be something for everyone. I think I have around 90 apps on mine some free some I have paid for.
