Excellent work John, not sure if I have seen this approach taken previously, very innovative and most effective.

Thank you guys. In hindsight, I should have perhaps shot a frame every 5 mins to smooth it out. I made a movie of it as well (AVI) & converted to MP4 but it's rather fast & I don't know how to slow it down.

;) Thats cool John how do you do that :screwy:
How do you turn photos into that  is it a special program you need to do that, or do you have to take the pics in raw or something
thats cool

Hi Jen.

Well I'm sure there's plenty of software out there for projects like this & in fact, programs that we astro enthusiasts use, like Bink & Smacker, VirtualDub etc. are quite capable of doing it but I prefer to use this:

http://www.blibs.com/editor/

It's free, plus you don't have to download & install yet ANOTHER program to your computer!:D

Hey thanks i will check that out.
So what were your pics taken as JPEG or dosnt it matter

asimov

Yes JPEG. After cropping & resizing each frame, my editing software saves them as TIF's & uploaded the TIF's straight to the linked page. Once it's done it's thing it will save it as a gif.

Thanks JJJ. With this being basically my first serious attempt at an animation, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm going to have to attempt a reprocess - I want BIGGER & better!:D

John,

That's wonderful -- thanks for that. I didn't bother going outside because I could see what looked like cloud from my little window next to my desk here. Now I have seen it. : P

Thanks Humayun:) Sorry you missed it mate, due to cloud:confused2: I was half expecting the same problem considering where I am. Miracles do happen sometimes:lol:

Well, here's the reprocess. It's bigger but not necessarily better:lol:

Here's the process used. It might help others to develope GIF's of their own..

Open up each original image in photo editing program. Cropped mine to 592X592 resized to 400X400. A mask was created just inside the moon limb & unsharp masked. Saved as copies as TIF.

After that, opened each copy back up & created a new canvas 500X500. copied each image onto the new canvas. And that's pretty well it:hi:
