today I watched the 'mackeral clouds' zoom past quickly-usually this means a colourful sunset,as the afternoon drew to a close,I knew it was going to look good at the 'climatic moment'.I did not plan to get the camera out,as I was busy with jobs on the property. But 5 minutes before the sky turned beautiful,I went and got the 50D and 17-55 F 2.8 ,and took these images.

Exif- f 8,iso 200,speed 80,leaning against a fence post.I was fairly pleased with these,-especially with no planning.

I hope these may be of interest, and hope some one leaves some comment and CC,I would like to do more of these sunset pictures.

thank you for taking the time to look at them,Chris

HOLY CRAP!

Do you get skies like that often, Chris? I thought we were going to have a nice sunset here tonight, but, no go.

I really like the first one and the last one.

If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to use Photoshop to level out the horizon. An easy way of doing this is to use the Ruler tool from the left-hand menu. What you do is draw a straight line from left-to-right (following the horizon). Then, simply go to Image > Rotate > Arbitrary, and it will automatically have filled in the relevant rotation angle for you. Simply click OK, and job's done.

Even the latest Digital Photo Professional has built in image rotation (they call it angle adjustment) found in the Tools menu.

Well done, mate. Those are sensational.

Thanks Humayan for your advice and comments,I will check out the tool you mention, that sounds very useful-I find when I take photos of sunrise over ocean, the sea is just slightly going 'up or down hill',so will use that advice to get it level.

re-'do we get sunsets like that often';unfortunately -no,have'nt seen one like that for quite along time,we tend to get them more in winter, thats the first so far.

I wonder if any other icers in S.E QLD got any photos?of this sunset today

cheers Chris

PS the time was 5.15 pm approx

I think you'll get pleasure for many years for those 5 mins where you stopped to sniff the roses..... :)

Beautiful Chris. You have to capture an opportunity like that when you see it. Well done.

There's something about country sunsets. I recall a higher percentage of memorable sunsets when I lived in Toowoomba, rather than Brisbane.

Great shot Chris.

Great shots Chris! I was up on Mt Coot-tha taking shots of the full moon rising in the east (posted in the solar system forum), and only turned around after the best of the colour had finished! But most of the clouds had cleared over Brisbane, so the sunset view wasn't as good as yours.

Cheers,
Stephen
