Cleaning my HD tonight I came across some very old shots (http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/oldpics/). The very first pics I took with my Nikon Coolpix on Monte's finder scope and a couple on my newt with a Pentax. Trip down memory lane ... and noise and artefacts...all that sort of stuff.
*disclaimer: these might scar your retina.

Always good to see where you've come from, gives a clue as to where your going.
Definitely in the right direction Marc.

Pentax *istD? Before I used the Nikon Coolpix 995 with an eyepiece projection and first shot I thought wow...that's odd! That's when I learnt my first astro word: coma. :P
My first ever pic was a couple of lines. The bright one was sirius if I recall
I thought the important thing is to remember where you come from. Just wanna give hope to all the noobs so they know 'this is normal'. Gotta start somewhere. :) ... mind you by the calibre of the photos I see in the beginners forums these days they're all semi-pro already.

Gee Marc
I have a coolpix 5000 and a special adaptor I made for eyepiece projection in 2002. I tried it on a couple of shots of Jupiter and they had as much detail as Venus. I got the special RS232 cable and a program to take subs up to 5 mins. The clouds were around every night from then on and I lost interest. You think your old shots are primative. Take a look at this!
I was going to try it on the LX200 up at Wiruna a few months ago but could not find my cables. I think with modern control programs it may be workable again for an experiment. Must try it sometime.

Yes, I like reminiscing too - looking back gives context to where you are and where you're going!
Cheers, Marcus

We all have some of these Marc but yours are a lot better than most of my first digital images and we won't go back to film.
