Starless IC1271 Nebula in NB

Put your sunnys on 1st :P.

This is part of M8 Lagoon nebula. I cant find any other pics on the web of just this area, which is supprising, as its quite attractive.

It looks like a huge cliff with rocks at the bottom, and an alien snake trying to climb it :P.

Res is not that great, as this is a 50% crop, which makes it equivalent to a some 4m FL.

Ha:SII:Ha:OIII Ha 3nm 9hrs bin1 20min subs; SII 3 hrs; OIII 3 hrs both bin2 20min subs. Off axis guided with the AO8 operating at 5 hz, which was a rare treat :).

I bit colourfull....., well maybe more that ;) for the hell of it :D.

Not bad, the colours are quite subtle really and there is some lovely subtle 3D going on here too. I have to say though, while it is certainly an attractive coloured vista, this micro FOV and starless approach probably creates a feeling in the viewer that verges on viewing "space art"... there is little if anything to create a frame of reference identifying it as a deep sky image.... Still, looks pretty cool :thumbsup:

mmm, yes, I see what you mean. I wasnt quite aiming for that, its all too hard to pass off entirely as art. Ill take and insert some RGB stars perhaps, get an astro aspect back into it, and tone down the colour/brightness a bit. Thanks for the feedback Mike :thumbsup:

What you need is an hyper-resolution mosaic at that image scale and that FL of the whole lagoon. C'mon... you know you want it. :lol:

Gaud, the last (only) time I tried a mosiac, it was a nightmare, enough already, and imagine 400hrs to get what, a hyper star WW?, or a Sidonio one-shot, eek, Ill leave it up to you punks to do in a fraction of the time :mad2::D

I like it Fred. Its like dawn in the Lagoon Nebula.

Its a bit similar in shape to a northern nebula often imaged with those couple of little fingers.

Hi Fred, that is an outstanding image. A starless field heading, put me off at first, but after viewing your image it is wonderful to just see the nebula without the distraction of the stars.

Very nice Fred, the starless effect combined with NB works very well with this nebula. There is also a 3D effect present as well.

Thanks guys. How to do it?, Astroanarcys site (http://astroanarchy.blogspot.com/2009/04/neaic.html) its all there (tone mapping), his process allows starless or reinserted stars. Ive added a few steps, but as is his pics show how powerfull it is.

And yes, hopfully Ill get some RGB so you can have stars with that ;-).
