Partial Lunar Eclipse- this Saturday 26 June in Randwick

Hi all,

Should the impossible happen and the clouds clear this Saturday evening, a session at the oval of Randwick Girls' High School will kick of around 7:30pm.

All are welcome to come.

Let me know if you need more than an hour to set up as first contact for the eclipse is expected at around 8:30pm.

If I type "Randwick Girls' High School" into Google Maps it sends me to the Randwick Boys' High School :shrug:

Maybe I should join the long list of people suing Google… :lol:

Hi Stephan, should be next door to the boys school. Entrance is tight across from the hospital

Entrance gate is in Barker Street, right on the roundabout with the entrance to Prince of Wales Hospital.

Go straight down the driveway to the Hall where signs will guide you from there. If we're parked on the oval, go slow.

Funny though, Steffan, I typed the same into google maps and it marked the above entrance, :shrug:.

Yes, I know, but it says this is the boys' school. I had no idea both schools shared the same building (what's the point of having separate ones then, really?).

So, it's the large square lawn area south of the school buildings?

Sadly, the weather forecast doesn't look too good. But they've been wrong before, haven't they ;)

I'll be there at 7:00-7:30

I hope the sky will break. Even if there will be light clouds, we should still be able to resolve the moon through a telescope. Would be wonderous viewing the earths umbra through the craters.

Hickny and I will look to get there for 7pm if we can. Old Hickny has a flu to kill a horse, so may not stay long. Might start packing once the Moon leaves umbra- I've got a football match to watch...

Well, it turned out to be quite a night. All up we were 15 people there to watch the slow progression of Earth's shadow across the moon.

I took my little C5 with a webcam and took some snappy-happies. Morls brought along his new 8" newt.

I've added a few pics as the eclipse reached maximum. Sorry about the flecks from a dirty diagonal. The pics were taken afocal with a 32mm plossl, and just single frames. No "flats" here, Brett!

Hickny, many thanks again for going out of your way to open the oval to us considering how crook you were! Ta, mate, :thumbsup:.

I couldn't unshackle myself tonight unfortunately, having to attend a best mate's family affair.

However, I managed to completely hijack the get-together by bringing along the ED80 and drawing the eclipse to everybody's attention. The Moon continues to be a mighty crowd pleaser when looked at through a scope :)

Was an awesome night

and in spirit of FIFA, I had the soccer ball out to keep warm

and alex, those signs were great, should bring them out to katoomba as well, can I suggest bringing one of those inflatable green aliens as well ;)
