The Carnegie Atlas of Galaxies (Volumes I and II)

Sandage A. / Bedke J.

This is a beautiful and monumental collection covered in two volumes. Originally published in 1994, I purchased these volumes brand new in the late 1990’s and they have been rarely used since. They are in immaculate condition, having always being stored flat (never on their edges). As can be seen in the images, they are packaged in their original boxes.

Galaxies are printed 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 to the page. Each volume is large and size (and heavy in weight), measuring 14" x 18”.

As per the preface, this two-volume atlas was created to accompany and supplement the "Revised Shapley-Ames Catalogue of Bright Galaxies". It also extends, refines, and more completely illustrates the galaxy classification system set out in "The Hubble Atlas of Galaxies". The atlas consists of 340 panels illustrating 1,168 individual galaxies. The galaxies are arranged in the order of the present classification sequence, starting with diskless E galaxies and ending with the Sm and Im late-type dwarfs and the amorphous types. Most of the 1,246 galaxies of the original Shapley-Ames Catalogue (1932) are illustrated.

$175 or best offer. Postage (within Australia only) would be extra. Please contact via private message. Payment to be via bank transfer.
