Last night I saw something I've never seen before. At 7:25 PM EST the moon was well on its way rising in the east and there were some thin clouds masking it for a while. These clouds were, or I could say this cloud cover was made up of varing degrees of thickness in a horizontal thin, thick, thin, thick pattern. (probably about 3 thin and 4 thick or opposite) It made it look like the moon had stripes or bands like Jupiter. It was very odd looking. By the time I got home, approx. 7:40 PM EST the clouds were gone, clear skies, and the "show" was over. dt

i once was on a summer night walk with missus many years ago now - watched a near setting 25%-ish illuminated yellow moon low in the west - some perfectly shaped (hourglass?) very slow moving (almost stationary) small very dense clouds in an otherwise mostly cloudless sky perfectly bisected the cup like, fat crescent moon into two perfectly shaped yellow eyes - exactly like batman type eyes - the little solid clouds stayed in perfect position for ages following the moon down - weirdest moon view i have ever seen! (i have told this story before here i think) cant ever forget it! amazing to me to think such a simple thing as that could have such an impression on me - i havent seen anything even close to that since - was as good as a full lunar eclipse, maybe better. would of been an awesome photo
