:D It's the first time I've ever tried to image the Western Veil.
1 hour and 40 minutes of 5 minute subs.
Separate darks, flats taken
Canon 20d @ iso800
ED80
Guided using QHY5
HEQ5Pro mount.

Stacked in DSS
Processed in CS3 and Image Analyzer

Had to hack at it hard when I cropped, to try to keep compression artefacts to a minimum when I posted.

I'll be reproing this one for the next week. :)
Especially if I gather more data tonight, and tomorrow night etc etc

Nice shot JJJ. Very sharp - probably needs lot more data as it's faint but it's real good start.

That's a corker J...
Like the way you've handled everything.
The only let down is the lack of red sensitivity with your DSLR.
More data would be great, then you can boost the red channel to taste, this should bring out the red tendrils better.

Going great guns.

That's a great shot JJJ
Looks very good to me. And I like the framing

You probably already have enough data I suspect.
A slight boost of saturation in CS3 might bring out the veil.

The color is very nice in the stars too.
Consider perhaps a sequence of :
'select, highlights, expand 4 pixels, feather 3 pixels, increase saturation a touch (will saturate just the stars)

Hi Nettie, that's a very nice image, and one of my favourite objects of the north.

All the best.

Great shot Nettie - nice sharp focus across the whole field, and a lovely rendition of the wispy nebula!!

Really nice shot JJJ:):). Lots of detail in the neb. This is one object that can do with a fair bit of data so the more you can grab, the better it'll turn out.

Looking good, though:):)

Looks great Jeanette. I know your skies are pretty damned good, but might be one to top up on at Astrofest?

I like the way unmodded cam's bring out the blues in this one... :)

Looks pretty good. Perhaps it could do with a bit more saturation for star colour and maybe some selective sharpening (after you get some more data). Well done on a low elevation target.

You're a brave woman jjj - very nice image (sharpness and colours)
I admire you for pushing for the not so easy targets, off which I am sadly guilty!
Beautiful work
Doug:thumbsup::thumbsup:

A good rendition of a challenging target JJJ - well done! More data needed of course ... but how about some 10 min subs? Onya for having a go at the tougher targets too!

Cheers, Marcus

Lovely work JJJ

You've done a great job on this target, I've heard it can be quite a challenge.

Honestly, it really isn't a hard target.
It shows up quite plainly in a 20sec shot @ iso 3200. Making it very easy to frame.
And there is a HUGE bonus with that star smack dab in the middle of the FOV, it's perfect for guiding. :D

well done

Nice veil JJJ. A little lift with some selective saturation will lift the veil off the page. Nice work.

Another fine image Jeanette. The repro came up nicely

The veil is much too low down here so we're envious of some of the targets you're able to capture :) Keep them coming !!
