I have just received a TTL232R cable from Dontronics and have connected it to an RJ45 plug according to the directions on the EQMOD website:

RJ45 Pin 4 (BLUE) ------------> TTL232R Black wire
RJ45 Pin 5 (BLUE/WHITE) ----> TTL232R Yellow wire
RJ45 Pin 6 (ORANGE) ---------> TTL232R Orange wire

From what I understand, this will allow me to bypass the synscan handset and connect the RJ45 plug into the handset socket on the motor controller box.

Can someone who has done this before please confirm that the connections above are OK?

Also another important point crossed my mind...are the handset connections to the motor control box for the EQ5 the same as for the HEQ5. I can't see any reason that they would not be, but that is the sort of assumption that fries things....:P

The EQMOD site only gives details for the HEQ5, so I thought I had better ask....

Many thanks
Adam

alright then...does anyone know how much a new synscan motor control box costs?

I haven't tried it out yet, but just in case...

Thought I had some close-up pics of my finished cable but cant find them Adam. Exactly the same wiring as per EQMOD site. Can't help with EQ5 vs HEQ5Pro - perhaps post on EQMOD or EQ forums?

Hi Adam,

Sorry I also don't have any definite answer, but since the Synscan handset for the EQ5/HEQ5 is the same, one would expect that the wiring connections are the same to the control box connector.

Good luck.

Thats what I would have thought....just not sure I want to bet the MC box on it though....ahh what the hell, you only live once. I'll give it a try now....

Will keep an eye out for mushroom clouds.....;)

Congrats! Now you can move on to the next challenge! Making round stars while guiding :)

It's OK (just) with my 1000mm newt + MPCC, but the 2000mm C8, even with 6.3FR, is causing me all sorts of headaches. Eta C tonight looked like it was under attack from all directions by alien motherships :)

Cheers,

Zaps
