A link to the story here (http://www.smh.com.au/world/science/space-invader-on-target-for-australia-after-4-billion-kilometre-trip-20100607-xqu7.html) - I couldn't see another thread about it but if there is fee free to combine this with it.

It refers to the Japanese mission launched in 2003 to obtain asteroid materail for analysis.

According to the Hayabusa page mentioned above, No, it will re-enter over what looks like Geraldton, WA. We may get to see it if the trajectory is REALLY wrong ...

Ok, to flip Vincents question, will us Sandgropers likely see anything?

No fireball from Sidney. It won't be high enough. See path of the re-entering spacecraft at this link:

Translated via Google Translate (Hayabusa optical telescope observations of the earth return before (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.isas.j axa.jp%2Fj%2Ftopics%2Ftopics%2F2010 %2Fhayabusa_obs.shtml&sl=ja&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8)), the JAXA page gives the following person as a contact for observation details: yoshikawa.makoto@jaxa.jp
