This is taking so long and with the weather and time of year (and the time available to get to the observatory) of I don’t know if I am going to finish it in LRGB. Maybe if it is fine next weekend but long weekendds and clear weather don’t seem to go together too well. I’d like to see the central dust lane in colour but.
Peter Ward started me on a quest for faint dust in this area with his comments re dust in his 3576 image. This is a 4 panel mosaic in Ha taken with my Televue np101is. Each panel is 2 hours of 15 min subs (always could be more I suppose)– it has hardly been stretched (as reflected by the 3576 section – too much stretching just drowns this area out) –could also be tightened up with a LR before use in lum - I have 2 more panels nearly ready for the top that show dark background sky. Maybe I can get them completed next weekend as well. At present it is about 3 degrees by 2 degrees. Eta Carina would be to the upper right. I have nowhere near enough RAM to extend that far.
Obviously the brighter objects are 3576 and friends as well as the IC open cluster at lower left (number is at home – I forget it). The HII region at lower right is Bran 328A and the V shaped dark lane within it has a VdB number (again at home) - looks like a small cone neb. I cant find any identifier on the large dust lane. The small blob that looks like a pn to the right of the brighter lower central star has an IRAS identifier but I can find any catalogue number for it on Aladin or Vizier etc similarly to HII region to the upper right. If anyone can help with identifiers it would be great
Anyway its details are
Televue np101is, SBIG ST8300M, Astronomik 6 nm Ha, stacked and mosaic in Maxim DL and touched up in CS3
Any info will be gratefully received.
