Workshops at IISAC

Hi all.

I've almost finished the agenda for IISAC, but there's a couple of "beginners" type workshops I wouldn't mind running, if I can find a volunteer to present them.

I'm thinking of informal type workshops (stand around looking and pointing at telescopes and bits) for:

1. How to Collimate a Newtonian Reflector
2. Mirror Maintenance for Newtonian Reflectors (cleaning, checking for astigmatism, pinched primary/secondary)
3. Maybe others?

I'm after a volunteer or 2 to present workshops on #1 and #2 above. If you're interested, please let me know ASAP so I can work it into the agenda.

If you have an idea for another workshop (and have someone to present it) let me know.

I'd offer Mike but the only mirror I know about cleaning in my bathroom mirror. But on a more helpful side here's another idea for a beginners workshop. A beginners guide to drift aligning/polar aligning.

:lol:@Phil. Nothing wrong with a good title that actually describes what your going to do. :) My students at Tafe just loooove my assignment titles and descriptions. :P

Paul, do they take the title then complete the essay by their name at the end?

Sometimes its hard to shorten a description of something

No but I handed out a sample assignment once (done by me with "Sample only" as a big watermark under the text) to show them what was expected. One bright spark scanned it, ran it through an OCR program, mixed the layout a bit, changed a couple of words and headings, changed the format a bit, and resubmitted it. He even used my own images.

And then he got upset when I handed it back laughing. He couldn't understand why he failed when he'd put all that work into it. He was fresh out of high school so I'll leave it to your imagination to work out where all his school assignments came from.

hahah Paul.....you only have yourself to blame....but a very good idea anyway.

I can teach golf if that helps.
