Not really, just dwarf planet Ceres making a passage across the well-known nebula! Picked up the extra 'dot' in a Sagittarius widefield last night - small, cropped animation attached. Its position in the 12 May frame is left of centre, near the bottom of the frame.

Wonder if any of the deep sky imagers picked up the 'wanderer'?

Wow, well captured Rob!! Very clear in first animation, took a little longer longer in second but still very clear when it was found.

PS ... am in hysterics over your quality dew shield on your scope, am sure I must have seen it before on your site, but cracked me up : ))))

 Thanks Liz! Had to work out how you found the link to the set-up - the blog link from the web-page! I am absolutely loving the illuminated reticle guiding - have purchased a new remote shutter activator (wired) that allows me to take longer exposures, and can go a few minutes now before my hand runs out of movement! :P Never go back to the laptop - it's a great feeling being out in the dark in the back paddock, no cabling, webcams, power leads and bright lights... :D

"Measured" polar alignment is now out-the-window too - I know where the SCP is, so I just plonk the scope down and point it at the pole!! Much better result! ;)

Thanks all!

Well Paul, I can't see the word 'animation' anywhere, but the 'star' at bottom left is also Ceres, on 12 May 2010. It moved from that position to over the Lagoon Nebula in the intervening time. I hope that's the object you meant! :)
