IC2944 Ha

After a few teething problems with my guiding, last Saturday night saw my first multi-sub image after the G11s regrease. The weather allowed 20 min worth of subs, so I'll take what I can get. :)

So I present IC2944 The Running Chicken (in there somewhere), 4 x 300sec Ha, WO72 and SXVF-H9. Stacked in IP and processed in CS3

What surprised me about this shot Greg is how well the Thackeray Globlules came out considering the seeing on the night and the focal length. I'd like to know how I can stop the Ha from blowing out the brightest stars though.

Wonderful Paul, always regretted selling you that H9, LOL.
What is the Ha filter, and the distance? I recalled Robin having issues with some LRGB filters with his HX-916, maybe try a different Ha filter, sorry.

Its an astronomik 1.25" Gary. Unfortunately I don't have another Ha filter, but you are welcome to donate one :D

Well done Paul. Surprised to hear the stars caused you grief given a Ha filter typically cuts the energy through its small bandpass window. Good processing with so little data. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks AL. Is that the 72FD, Al? Its a fantastic little scope. And works well with the DSLR but you will need the WO Flat III focal reducer and flattener. It does a great job. Perfect for M31 come Astrofest time.

Thanks Jase. I don't know what's happening with the stars. I did some shots of The HH a couple of months ago (long time between drinks :( ) and Alnitak was the same. Its only the really bright ones. I'm starting to think that maybe its something with the camera. How it deals with saturation??? :shrug: I'd like to try another camera to see. I have an 7-XME but its nabg, so its just going to bloom anyway. I might try it on a QHY9 this weekend (weather permitting and I can pries it out of the owners hands :D).

I'm with you on monochrome. There's an elegance about it, and in many ways I prefer it to a colour shot of equivalent quality. Nice! :thumbsup:
